Vice President Kashim Shettima, along with the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, led a Federal Government delegation to Maiduguri in response to the devastating floods that have affected the city.
NEME announced this on its official X account and shared with Africa Health Report (AHR) on Wednesday morning.
The floods, caused by intense rainfall and the overflow of the Alau Dam, have resulted in significant devastation. Upon their arrival, the delegation was welcomed by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and then went on to survey the worst-hit areas, navigating through floodwaters to evaluate the extent of the damage.
In his remarks, Vice President Shettima conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s deep concern for the affected residents, stating, “The President is deeply concerned about this disaster, and we will ensure the government provides all necessary assistance to those impacted.” Efforts are currently underway to provide relief to displaced residents as emergency services work tirelessly in the region.
