The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has officially been inaugurated into the Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes, and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRIAI) in a move aimed at enhancing advocacy efforts and support for members in educational and research institutions across Nigeria.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Abuja, on Tuesday, the sectoral Chairman of SSAUTHRIAI, Baba Mohammed, emphasised the importance of adherence to union regulations and inclusive decision-making processes.
He cautioned TRCN branch executives to ensure all members are involved in key discussions and informed about relevant information, stressing the need for strict adherence to the union’s constitution to avoid disciplinary measures.
“Let me remind you that SSAUTHRIAI is a union of peace and constructive dialogue; therefore, you must not engage yourselves in radical unionism. Rather, it is now ‘jaw, jaw’ and not ‘war, war.’
“It is dialogue and negotiation in a calm and peaceful atmosphere to achieve your aims.”
Central to the Chairman of the SSAUTHRIAI TRCN branch, Ihionu Chukwuemeka called for support from SSAUTHRIAI, Trade Union Congress, and the Nigerian Union of Teachers to advocate for the reinstatement of government funding for TRCN to prevent financial strain on teachers.
TRCN Registrar, Josiah Ajiboye, stressed the importance of safeguarding the union’s reputation and building trust among members to drive greater achievements.
