Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for urgent action to promote the rights, dignity, and health of persons with albinism, aligning her voice with this year’s global campaign theme: “Demanding our Rights: Protect our Skin, Preserve our Lives.”
To mark the 2025 International Albinism Awareness Day, on Friday, the First Lady expressed solidarity with people living with albinism in Nigeria and globally, emphasizing the need for inclusive policies and public education that combat discrimination and ensure safety.
“People with albinism deserve not only equal rights but also the dignity, safety, and healthcare needed to live full, healthy lives,” Mrs. Tinubu stated.
She described the annual observance as a powerful reminder that all Nigerians, regardless of their skin condition, should be empowered to thrive. “We must build a society where every Nigerian, regardless of skin condition, can live with pride and dignity,” she added.
The First Lady also reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for stronger institutional support and public awareness campaigns that protect and promote the well-being of people with albinism.
