The Nigerian President, President Bola Tinubu has emphasized the need for improved coordination among security agencies to address internal threats in Nigeria.
Speaking at a meeting with the country’s security chiefs and heads of intelligence agencies in Abuja, Tinubu expressed his concerns over the recent bombing in Kaduna State and labelled it as a series of avoidable errors that should not be repeated.
The incident in Kaduna State, which occurred last December, resulted in the loss of at least 85 lives and injuries to several others in Tudun Biri village, Igabi Local Government Area. The military took responsibility for the deadly airstrike and issued an apology, eliciting widespread condemnation.
Tinubu commended the progress made in recent months in terms of coordination among all agencies, but he urged caution and emphasised that there should be no room for complacency until Nigeria’s security challenges are fully addressed.
He stated, “I am pleased that coordination between all agencies has dramatically improved over recent months, but there is no room for celebrations until we can end this; until we can bring our troops back to their localities, and until we can free up resources for our critical economic expansion programme.”
The President highlighted the importance of intelligence reports and called for increased efforts from the Navy and sister branches to achieve the nation’s security objectives.
He also stressed the government’s commitment to aggressively uprooting those who pose a threat to the nation’s agenda and ensuring justice for those working against it.
While acknowledging the progress in eliminating some security threats across multiple theatres, President Tinubu emphasised that success will ultimately be defined by a comprehensive resolution of the multi-dimensional security challenges facing the nation.
He reiterated that failure is not an option under his leadership and called for sustained momentum in addressing security threats for the benefit of all Nigerians.
