In a move to streamline government expenditure, President Bola Tinubu has restricted federal ministers and agency heads to three vehicles in their official convoys.
The directive, issued today in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga also mandates that no additional vehicles will be allocated for their movements.
This latest cost-cutting measure follows earlier actions taken by President Tinubu in January, where he reduced the size of his entourage on both domestic and foreign trips. “Our government is committed to fiscal responsibility,” the statement stated. “These measures reflect our dedication to prudent governance.”
The new guidelines stipulate that ministers and agency heads may only have five security personnel, consisting of four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer. “No additional security personnel will be assigned,” the directive clearly states, highlighting a move towards increased accountability and resource efficiency.
President Tinubu has instructed the National Security Adviser to collaborate with military and security agencies to assess further reductions in vehicle and personnel deployment.
All officials affected by these measures are expected to comply immediately, underscoring the administration’s commitment to cutting unnecessary costs.
