In an effort to eliminate the Lakurawa sect in Sokoto and Kebbi States, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has deployed a Special Operations Brigade to both regions.
This deployment is part of the ongoing Operation Forest Sanity III (Chase Lakurawa Out), aimed at building upon previous successes.
While addressing the troops on Friday, Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose, General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Sector 2 Operation FASAN YAMMA, urged the soldiers to ensure the complete destruction of the Lakurawa sect. He also stressed the importance of adhering to the rules of engagement and safeguarding the lives and property of law-abiding citizens.
Before the deployment, troops from the 8 Division carried out precursor and shaping operations in key areas, including Rumji Dutse, East of Sarma, Tsauna, Bauni, Malgatawa, Gargao, Tsauna, and Magara Forests. Operations were also conducted in Kaideji, Nakuru, Sama, Sanyinna, Kadidda, Kolo, and Dancha villages in Illela, Tangaza, and Binji Local Government Areas.
The operation has yielded significant results, including the destruction of 22 camps, the neutralization of several sect members, and the recovery of a large cache of weapons and ammunition. Items recovered include 4 rifles, 409 PKT 7.62mm NATO rounds, and 94 7.62mm special rounds.
The deployment of the Special Operations Brigade is expected to disrupt the bandits’ activities and help restore normalcy to the affected communities in the North West region.
