Reported Ban on Alcohol in Niger State False – Bago

Juliet Jacob Ochenje
Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, has debunked reports about ban on alcohol in some local governments of Niger State.
The is coming after the Niger State Liquor and Licensing Board on Wednesday announced its intention to stop the sale and consumption of alcohol in Suleja and other Local Government Areas of the state  from January 1, 2024.
In a statement issued on Thursday, he accused imposters of giving the directive which went viral.
”We wish to state categorically that the governor, who has been busy initiating and overseeing many people-centred projects across the state, never issued such a directive,” the statement read.
It added, ”The liquor and Licensing board is yet to be constituted by the governor, as such, no directive of this kind can come from a board yet to be formed.”
Governor Bago directed security agents to arrest the self-appointed Secretary of the board, Mohammed Ibrahim.
