The Port Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced a remarkable revenue generation of N288.392 billion from January to November 6, 2024.
This impressive figure represents a 34.8% increase compared to the N213.914 billion collected during the same period in 2023 [1).
Comptroller Tenny Mankini Daniyan attributed the command’s success to the hard work of officers, compliance from port users, and cooperation from sister government agencies.
Under his leadership, the command broke the monthly revenue record in October 2024 with a collection of N44.021 billion.
The PTML Command has also made significant strides in anti-smuggling efforts, seizing items worth N28.478 million.
These seizures include used motor tyres, washing machines, fridges, and rice, as well as ammunition and firearms. Three suspects detained in connection with the seizures have been granted administrative bail.
The recent showcased their efforts to curb smuggling and enforce trade regulations.
Among the seized items were 2,598 pieces of used motor tyres, 12 used washing machines, and 6 used fridges, highlighting the country’s stance against importing used household items
Additionally, 56 bags of premium parboiled rice and 18 kegs of soybean vegetable oil were confiscated, emphasizing the ban on refined vegetable oils and fats.
But what’s even more alarming is the seizure of ammunition and firearms, including 12 rounds of 9mm Luger FC Black ammunition, 10 rounds of NIM FC 30-30 blank ammunitions, and 2 pistols, demonstrating the Service’s commitment to preventing illegal arms trade.
These seizures underscore the Nigeria Customs Service’s dedication to protecting national security, promoting fair trade, and enforcing compliance with import regulations.
Comptroller Daniyan emphasized the importance of patriotic service and utilizing modern trade facilitation tools to drive national economic growth.
The command aims to sustain its two-hour cargo clearance for compliant RoRo consignments and maximize revenue collection without compromising on diligent examination.
