Prepare for a Disease Even Deadlier Than COVID – WHO Warns

By Gom Mirian

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned all nations to be ready for a disease much more deadly than the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus who issued the dire warning at the World Health Assembly forum in Geneva, Switzerland, said the possibility of a new public health emergency must not be pushed “down the road.”

“The threat of another variant emerging that causes new surges of disease and death remains,” Ghebreyesus warned. The threat of another pathogen emerging with even deadlier potential remains.

Recall that in 2018, the WHO mentioned nine priority illnesses as the top public health threats. Noted that due to the lack of available therapies or their potential to start a pandemic, they were regarded to be the most dangerous.

He also claimed that despite the darkest days of the Coronavirus pandemic being consigned to history, a doomsday Covid variant with the power to send the world back to square one could still spawn. He, however, went ahead and unveiled a fresh worldwide plan to identify and monitor the most hazardous viruses.

“We cannot kick this can down the road. When the next pandemic comes knocking and it will, we must be ready to answer decisively, collectively, and equitably.”
