The Gombe police command says its operatives have arrested one Salisu Lawan for allegedly killing Usman Bello, his father, in Panda village in Akko LGA of the state.
According to NAN, Mahid Mu’azu, the command’s spokesperson, announced the arrest of Lawan alongside 14 other suspected criminals in a statement on Wednesday.
Mu’azu said the 22-year-old Lawan allegedly hit his father, 65, with a pestle on the head.
He added that the victim instantly fell and was rushed to a hospital where he was confirmed dead.
The police spokesperson said Mu’azu Mohammed, another suspect, was arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl in Gidim Borehole village in Yamaltu-Deba LGA of the state.
The suspect allegedly lured the victim, the daughter of his neighbour, and raped her twice.
Mu’azu said the suspect confessed to the crime after he was taken to the hospital for medical examination alongside the victim at the Cottage Hospital, Kwadon.
In a related development, six suspects were arrested for attacking one Malam Adamu Bako, a 70-year-old man, with a dane gun in Kwangu-Kulani village in Balanga LGA.
The suspects are Umaru Adamu, 30; Yahuza Adamu, 25; Zubairu Saidu, 20; Yisuf Isah, 23; Abdullahi Idris, 20 and Aminu Abdullahi, 26.
“Similarly, on Aug. 1 at about 1:30 am, three suspects, identified as Mohammed Ajuji, Usman Saidu and Amir Mohammed, were apprehended by the Billiri division patrol team in connection with a case of vandalism and theft of a transformer belonging to Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) worth N2.3 million,” the statement reads.
According to Mu’azu, all the suspects confessed to the crime noting that they would be charged in court.
He said three more suspects, Isah Adamu, Auwal Mohammed and Abubakar Nasiru, were arrested by the state low-cost division in Gombe town on August 6 for alleged criminal conspiracy.
The police spokesperson added that another set of suspects was arrested for breaking into a house and stealing a bunch of Wanda Polo boxes, 15 sets of wrappers, an HP computer with a charger, a satellite receiver, one bedsheet with two curtains, a Sony Television set and N120,000 cash.
Mu’azu said police found the stolen items in their possession, adding that the suspects would soon be charged in court.
