The Oyo State House of Assembly has passed the State College of Nursing and Midwifery further Amendment bill into law.
This milestone was achieved on Thursday during the resumed plenary session of the House, following a two-month recess.
The bill successfully scaled the third reading after the presentation of the joint committee report by Hon. Rilwan Gbadamosi Saminu, representing Saki East and Atisbo State Constituency.
The report was compiled by the Committees on Health, Nutrition and Food Security and Education (Tertiary) Institutions, Science and Technology.
The amendment brings about a significant change to the institution, as its name has been altered from Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery to Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences.
This change reflects the expanded scope of the college, which will now offer a broader range of academic programs.
According to Hon. Rilwan Gbadamosi Saminu, the amendment aims to enable graduates of the college to participate in the mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps program.
Additionally, the amendment provides legal backing for the establishment of satellite campuses, among other changes.
The passage of the bill into law marks a significant development in the advancement of nursing education in Oyo State. The amended law is expected to enhance the quality of education and training provided by the college, ultimately contributing to improved healthcare services in the state.
