The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has joined his ancestors barely two days after marking his 90th birthday.
Africa Health Report (AHR) gathered that the revered monarch, who was born on July 5, 1935, died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, closing a short but significant chapter in Ibadan’s traditional leadership.
Oba Olakulehin ascended the throne on July 12, 2024, when he received the staff of office from the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, becoming the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
His reign, which lasted just a year, was marked by efforts to foster unity and preserve the cultural heritage of Ibadanland.
Before his emergence as Olubadan, Oba Olakulehin rose through the traditional chieftaincy ranks, serving as Balogun Olubadan.
He succeeded Oba (Dr.) Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who passed away at 81 on March 14.
