The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has authorized the prompt execution of a N70,000 minimum wage for all employees of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
This payment will commence in November 2024 and will also cover three months of arrear
The statement, signed by Anthony Odeh, Press Secretary to the Head of Civil Service of the FCT, on Tuesday, was issued just weeks ahead of a proposed strike by labor unions in response to delays in the new wage policy’s implementation.
The FCT branches of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have warned of shutting down FCT operations by November 30 due to the government’s lack of action.
Recognizing the importance of the matter, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, the Acting Head of Civil Service for the FCT, affirmed that the decision is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
She remarked, “This action will motivate all administration staff to assist the minister in advancing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
This initiative by the administration under Wike is anticipated to ease tensions and show goodwill towards labor unions prior to their scheduled demonstrations.
