Nigerian Navy Arrests Ghanaian Motor Tanker Crude Oil Theft Suspect

The Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT located at Naval Base Apapa Lagos arrested a Ghanaian Vessel MT Sweet Miri suspected to have loaded 2 million litres of  crude oil from Nigeria’s coastal environment

The arrest was made on Saturday by Commander of the Base Commodore Kolawole Olumide Oguntuga and commander of Operation Awatse where a vessel suspected to have one Ghanaian, 12 Nigerians crew members carrying astolen crude oil

Relatedly the Flag Officer Commander (FOC) will stern Naval Cmand Rear Admiral MB Hassan confirmed in a statement that the vessel was a suspect and she was being arrested on the suspicious of crude oil theft on 25 of February 2024, the vessel was observed to have switched off its Automatic Identification System to avoid detection

The vessel was arrested 174 nautical miles off the coast of Nigeria and was found carrying products suspected of crude oil heading to Benin Republic. The Navy further revealed that 2 ships NNS ABA and NNS SOKOTO were deployed to intercept the vessel.
