The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has refuted claims that its warehouse was looted by hoodlums in Abuja.
NEMA spokesperson, Manzo Ezekiel, clarified that the looted warehouse is not affiliated with the agency, but expressed sympathy for the owners of the looted facility.
In a statement on Sunday, Ezekiel said, “The looted warehouse is not affiliated with NEMA. We sympathize with the owners of the looted facility.” This clarification comes after reports emerged that a warehouse in Abuja, belonging to the Federal Capital Territory’s Department of Agriculture, was raided by residents, resulting in the looting of foodstuffs and other items.
Zakari Aliyu, the Public Relations Officer of the FCT Agric secretariat, confirmed that the looted warehouse belonged to their agency but did not provide further details on the incident.
In response to the security breach, NEMA has taken proactive measures to safeguard its facilities nationwide.
The Director General, Mustapha Habib Ahmed, has directed Zonal Directors and Heads of Operations to strengthen security in and around the Agency’s offices and warehouses across the country.
