The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has intensified efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and flood mitigation through continuous capacity development of staff and stakeholders in Borno and Yobe states.
Speaking in Maiduguri at the weekend, the Northeast Zonal Coordinator for NEMA, Abdullahi Garba Surajo, said 21 local government areas across the two states—11 in Yobe and 10 in Borno—are expected to experience flooding.
According to him, “The initiative aims to enhance synergy and collaboration among stakeholders, equipping them with the essential skills and knowledge required for effective disaster management.”
He noted that the Emergency Operation Centre has been activated for planning and emergency response.
“We shared advisories and asked stakeholders to translate them into local languages for grassroots sensitization,” he added.
Surajo listed vulnerable LGAs including Nguru, Gaidam, Jakusko in Yobe, and Maiduguri, Jere, Damboa, Gwoza, and Dikwa in Borno, urging continuous monitoring and proactive response efforts.
