Neglected Giri Primary School Endangers 211 Pupils – Report

A recent report by civic technology platform MonITNG has exposed the dire conditions at L.E.A. Primary School, Giri, where over 211 pupils are forced to learn in a deteriorating and unsafe environment due to years of neglect.

Founded in 1976 and situated across from the NNPC filling station in Giri, Gwagwalada Area Council, the school has experienced significant deterioration in its infrastructure, leading to worries about the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) government’s dedication to basic education.

On Friday, MonITNG highlighted the troubling conditions of the school. The report pointed out that the classrooms lack windows, leaving students vulnerable to harsh weather. Additionally, the ceiling panels have been damaged, introducing further safety risks. It also noted the absence of an administrative building and how the damaged perimeter fence presents significant security concerns.

Residents have voiced their frustration and demanded prompt action from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Senator Ireti Kingibe.

Despite billions of naira allocated to education in the FCT, institutions like L.E.A. Primary School in Giri remain neglected, according to MonITNG. The report urged immediate intervention from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Senator Ireti Kingibe.

Public outcry is mounting, with increased calls for the government to address the deteriorating state of the school. The case of L.E.A. Primary School, Giri, serves as a stark reminder of the widespread infrastructural decay plaguing public education in Nigeria.
