The National Economic Council (NEC) has urged the federal government to withdraw the Tax Reform Bill currently before the National Assembly.

The decision was made to allow for broader consultations and consensus-building among key stakeholders.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who briefed State House Correspondents after the NEC meeting, explained that the council acknowledged the country’s underperformance in terms of revenue generation.

However, it was determined that further discussions and a more inclusive approach were necessary to address concerns and misconceptions surrounding the proposed tax reforms.

Additionally, the NEC directed the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation to conduct a comprehensive review of the nation’s waterways and dams.

This initiative aims to mitigate the impact of flooding and improve water resource management.
