NDLEA Abolishes Spouse’s Consent for Married Women’s Visa Requirement

In a significant policy shift, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced that married women will no longer need to present a letter of consent from their husbands to obtain visa clearance for certain countries.

This development is part of a comprehensive review of the visa clearance process required by the NDLEA for individuals traveling to specific nations.

Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, explained that the earlier rule was put in place in response to troubling incidents in some destination countries. However, after re-evaluating the process, the Agency deemed the requirement unnecessary.

“As part of the ongoing review of the visa clearance process, the requirement for a married woman to present a letter of approval from her husband to travel is no longer mandatory,” Babafemi confirmed in a statement on Thursday.
