In a groundbreaking move to strengthen agricultural data and policy-making, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to conduct Nigeria’s most extensive agricultural survey under the global 50×2030 Initiative.
Speaking at the signing ceremony recently, NBS Statistician-General, Adeyemi Adeniran, described the initiative as “a transformative step in improving agricultural data for national planning.”
“With this survey, we will gather critical insights from 35,000 farming households across Nigeria, enabling us to shape policies that enhance food security, climate resilience, and sustainable farming,” he stated.
ACReSAL National Project Coordinator, Dr. Abu Idris, emphasized that the survey will not only improve data availability but also guide interventions that support smallholder farmers. “Data is at the heart of agricultural resilience. This initiative will help us understand farmers’ needs and tailor solutions accordingly,” he noted.
The survey aligns with Nigeria’s broader efforts to modernize agriculture through data-driven decision-making, ensuring that interventions are evidence-based and impactful.
