No fewer than 400 Nigerians have been deported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The deportees, comprising 90 females and 310 males, arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Wednesday.
They were received by officials from the office of the National Security Adviser, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, and other stakeholders.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were also present to assist the deportees.
The Federal Government of Nigeria called for calm over the deportation, urging citizens not to panic. This is not the first time Nigerians have been deported from another country. Recently, 103 Nigerians were deported from the Republic of Turkiye and received by NEMA and other stakeholders.
The deportees arrived through the pilgrims’ wing of the airport, where they were screened and processed by the relevant authorities.
The Federal Government has given the assurance that it would provide necessary assistance to the deportees to help them reintegrate into society.
The deportation of Nigerians from the UAE has been described as a concerning issue by analysts, and the Federal Government has been called upon to address the root causes of such deportations.
The said many Nigerians travel abroad in search of better opportunities, but some may find themselves in difficult situations, leading to deportation.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was actively involved in receiving and assisting deportees, providing them with necessary support and resources. The agency also appealed to Nigerians to be cautious when traveling abroad and to ensure they have the necessary documentation and information.
