The Lagos State Government has launched a free Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) screening and counseling program for attendees and exhibitors at the 2024 Trade Fair, taking place from November 1 to 10 at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos.

This initiative, led by the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA), aims to promote public health and provide convenient access to HIV testing and support services.

Deputy Governor Dr. Kadiri Hamzat, who declared the trade fair open, commended LSACA’s dedication to combating HIV spread in the state.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to sustainable healthcare delivery, recognizing the importance of good health for productivity.

Hamzat encouraged participants to take advantage of the free screening to know their HIV status and seek medical care if necessary.

According to Dr. Folakemi Animashaun, CEO of LSACA, the free HIV screening is part of efforts to improve access to healthcare services.

“The Chief Executive Officer of LSACA, Dr Folakemi Animashaun, said the free HIV screening initiative was part of efforts to promote public health, offering convenient access to HIV testing and support services in the state, adding that the state remained committed to improving access to health care services.

“She disclosed that the free screening and counselling exercise would run through the entire duration of the trade fair,” the statement said.

The agency has intensified efforts in upscaling Anti-Retroviral Therapy Programs, public awareness, free HIV testing, community outreach, and youth-focused programs.

The screening exercise will provide valuable resources and support for attendees and exhibitors regarding HIV awareness and prevention.

By raising awareness and encouraging responsible practices, the program aims to reduce community transmission of the virus.
