The Katsina State Government has trained and graduated 955 out-of-school adolescent girls in creative and vocational skills across nine skills acquisition centres, according to Hajiya Jamila Abdu Mani, Special Adviser on Girl Child Education and Child Development.
Speaking while marking Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s two years in office, Hajiya Jamila said the centres, which initially operated in four locations, were expanded to nine in 2024 due to growing demand. Centres are now operational in Katsina, Kaita, Baure, Funtua, and five additional locations.
She highlighted key interventions under Governor Radda’s administration, including the upgrade of the state orphanage with specialized medical personnel and enrollment of all children in the Social Health Insurance Scheme.
The government also ensured corrective surgery for a baby born with four legs in Mani LGA and sponsored treatment for an Almajiri boy from Zango with Osteosarcoma at AKTH.
To combat gender-based violence, the NASIHA Sexual Assault Referral Centre was established, offering clinical, legal, and psychosocial support.
Hajiya Jamila further disclosed that over 1,393 vulnerable children were re-enrolled in school through UNICEF-backed programmes, with 800 girls receiving mentorship.
“These efforts reflect our commitment to child welfare and inclusive education,” she said.
