The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to disaster preparedness, vowing to strengthen emergency response through strategic partnerships with key agencies.

Speaking during a Full Scale Flood Response Simulation Exercise by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Wudil Local Government Area on Saturday, Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, who represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, stressed the importance of proactive measures.

“We must take collective responsibility in preventing flood disasters. The cleaning of drainages and adherence to early warnings is not just the government’s duty, but a shared responsibility,” he said.

Gwarzo praised NEMA for choosing Kano for the exercise, describing it as “timely and crucial for building our emergency response capacity.”

NEMA Director General, Zubaida Umar, said the drill aimed to “enhance coordination, communication, and operational efficiency” in managing flood risks.

“Our goal is to build a more resilient society where stakeholders can act promptly and efficiently during emergencies,” she noted.

The simulation featured rescue drills involving NEMA, SEMA, security agencies, and community leaders.
