The Kano State Government has issued a strong appeal to Nigerians to abandon the harmful practice of open defecation.

The state’s Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Alhaji Nasiru Sule Garo, emphasized the severe consequences of this practice on both human health and the environment.

The call was made during a road walk organized to commemorate the 2024 International Toilet Day, which Kano State is hosting on November 19th.

This annual event aims to galvanize global efforts to address the sanitation crisis and provide safe sanitation facilities to the 3.5 billion people who currently lack them.

Commissioner Garo highlighted the significance of World Toilet Day in raising awareness about the crucial role of proper sanitation and hygiene.

He underscored the UN’s initiative to promote toilet usage and eradicate open defecation.

By joining the global movement against open defecation, Kano State aims to improve public health, protect the environment, and enhance the overall quality of life for its citizens.
