The Kano State Government has launched a statewide training programme for health managers to strengthen operational planning and improve health outcomes across its 44 local government areas.

Speaking at the opening session in Kano on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran, said the initiative aims to equip Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) officers with the skills to develop and implement practical health plans.

“This training decentralises knowledge to the grassroots and empowers our officers to create realistic and community-focused plans,” he said.

Dr Labaran added that the programme is part of wider reforms to improve health indicators and ensure effective response to disease outbreaks.

On routine immunisation, the commissioner noted, “Every child in Kano must be immunised,” while urging parents to embrace vaccination.

Nazifi Mahmud, chairman of the M&E Officers’ Forum, hailed the training as “timely and vital to effective health service delivery at the local level.”
