Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani announced on Friday that the number of out-of-school children in the state has decreased by 300,000 since April 2024.

The Governor shared this progress with journalists following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House.

According to the Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics, there are currently 768,739 out-of-school children at the basic education level. Governor Sani attributed the reduction to a concerted effort to improve educational infrastructure, which includes the construction of 62 new secondary schools and 2,340 primary school classrooms.

“I informed President Tinubu that in the last six months, we have successfully reduced the number of out-of-school children by about 300,000 through these initiatives,” Sani stated. He also highlighted a strategic teacher recruitment drive aimed at enhancing educational quality in the state.

In addition to educational improvements, Governor Sani mentioned that his administration has renovated and equipped 12 secondary healthcare centers in Kaduna. He emphasized the importance of investing in infrastructure, stating that his government is committed to addressing the needs of the populace.

To achieve these goals amid financial constraints, Governor Sani implemented strict cost-cutting measures. He revealed that state officials have been prohibited from acquiring new vehicles and that allowances for commissioners and advisers have been significantly reduced. The Governor himself has taken a 50% pay cut since taking office.

“We embarked on a severe adjustment to reduce the cost of governance,” Sani explained. “We have not purchased a single vehicle for any government official, and our focus is on channelling resources toward infrastructure development in education and healthcare.”

These initiatives reflect Sani’s commitment to improving the lives of the people in Kaduna State through effective governance and strategic investment in critical sectors.
