The Kaduna State Government on Monday flagged off the 2025 Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week (MNCHW) at Rigachikun Primary Healthcare Centre in Igabi Local Government Area, with support from UNICEF and other partners.
Performing the inauguration, Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Balarabe reaffirmed the state’s commitment to tackling maternal and child mortality. “Maternal, newborn, and child deaths are preventable and unacceptable. We must act urgently,” she said.
She cited figures from the 2023–2024 Demographic and Health Survey and outlined state interventions, including upgrading 255 PHCs, enrolling over 70,000 vulnerable residents into the State Health Insurance Scheme, and establishing a Department of Family Health.
“We are determined to write a new story of health, hope, and healing for every mother, child, and family in Kaduna State,” Balarabe added.
Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Board, Dr. Bello Jamoh, said the state would also vaccinate 12,000 girls against HPV to prevent cervical cancer, focusing on vulnerable communities.
