The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced that the Port Harcourt Refinery has commenced processing crude oil production.

According to the company’s spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, the refinery has kicked off with 60 percent capacity, processing 60,000 barrels per day of crude.

This development marks a significant milestone for the refinery, which has a combined 250,000 barrels per day capacity.

The commencement of crude oil production at the Port Harcourt Refinery comes after several failed commencement deadlines.

The refinery’s operations are expected to boost Nigeria’s refining capacity and reduce its reliance on imported petroleum products.

The successful restart of the refinery has been described as a welcome development for the Nigerian oil and gas industry, and it is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s economy.
