Governor Malam Umar Namadi has received the report of the Investigation Committee on the tragic tanker explosion that occurred in Majia town on October 14, 2024.
The committee, chaired by DIG Hafiz M. Inuwa (Rtd), was tasked with investigating the incident and providing recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
The investigation revealed that the fire, which claimed 209 lives and injured dozens, was caused by a combination of factors, including damaged road infrastructure, night driving, excessive speed, and the friction caused by scooping spilled fuel.
The committee has recommended several measures to enhance road safety and emergency response, including regular inspections of petroleum tankers, upgrading emergency response centers, establishing trauma centers and burn units, creating a dedicated road traffic management agency, and implementing sustainable empowerment schemes for affected communities.
Governor Namadi expressed his gratitude to the committee for their diligent work and assured that the government will implement their recommendations to prevent similar tragedies.
He also acknowledged the state government’s swift response to the crisis, including providing medical care, financial aid, and psychological support to victims and their families.
