ICPC Pledges Support to BPP in Combating Procurement Corruption

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, (ICPC) has committed to supporting the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) in tackling procurement corruption and related offenses in Nigeria.

This promise was made by ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, during a courtesy visit by the newly appointed BPP Director General, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, as disclosed in a statemen signed by the commision’s spokesperson, Demola Bakare on Tuesday.

Dr. Aliyu emphasied the critical need for collaboration between the two agencies, stating, “No entity could fight corruption alone, hence the need for effective collaboration is apt and necessary.”

He added, “With effective collaboration, we’ll be helping people to get value for money on their projects. We will also support the economy and businesses in securing contracts through legitimate means, ensuring that no Nigerian is deprived of their right to participate in procurement processes.”

Aliyu stressed that open competition and transparency were vital to ensuring the competence of those awarded contracts, which would, in turn, benefit the country’s economic development.

The new BPP Director General, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, expressed gratitude for the ICPC’s ongoing support, acknowledging their long-standing partnership in fighting corruption and promoting good governance. “We are passionate to come to you even though we just resumed, so that we can work together, identify those misusing funds, and provide Nigerians with the transparency they deserve,” Adedokun said.
