The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BudgiT Foundation to bolster transparency and accountability in the execution of publicly funded projects.
The signing took place on Friday at the ICPC in Abuja, during a courtesy visit by a BudgiT delegation led by its Country Representative, Mr. Gabriel Okeowo.
According to a statement sent to Africa Health Report (AHR) by the Director of Public Enlightenment and Education / Spokesperson for the Commission Demola Bakare, The Chairman of the ICPC Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu praised the agreement as a step forward in ensuring Nigeria’s scarce resources are used effectively.
He highlighted the success of the Commission’s Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking Group (CEPTG), which has tracked over 5,000 projects since 2019, recovering uncompleted projects worth N74 billion.
“This MoU will formalize our collaboration with BudgiT to safeguard public funds. I encourage Nigerians to engage with CEPTG’s work and track their constituency projects to hold government accountable,” Dr. Aliyu said, reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to prosecuting defaulters.
BudgiT’s Country Representative, Mr. Okeowo, underscored the significance of the partnership, noting that the TRACKA initiative will be instrumental in providing data, intelligence, and oversight for public project execution.
He expressed confidence in the collaboration, emphasizing that certain aspects of the agreement were already being implemented prior to the signing.
