The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned a former staff of the Court of Appeal, Munirat Abdulazeez, over alleged job racketeering involving fake employment offers with key government agencies.

According to a statement signed by the Spokesperson for the Commission on Saturday, Demola Bakare, Abdulazeez was brought before Justice Godwin Iheabunke of the FCT High Court, Bwari, after a bench warrant was issued for her arrest.

“The defendant was arraigned for promising non-existent jobs in NIMASA, CBN, and FIRS,” the Commission said.

The ICPC alleges that Abdulazeez, who was dismissed from service in 2023, fraudulently collected N9.2 million from eight unsuspecting job seekers between September 2022 and July 2023 under the guise of securing employment.

One of the charges stated: “That you MUNIRAT ABDULAZEEZ (AKA JUMMAI)… did obtain by false pretence the sum of N9,200,000… paid into your Access Bank account… under the guise of securing employment for them in the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).”

Abdulazeez pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge. ICPC counsel, Mr. Hamza Sani, requested to proceed with trial on June 20, 2025, to present witnesses.

Although the Commission did not oppose bail, Justice Iheabunke granted a N10 million bail with two sureties who must own verifiable property within the court’s jurisdiction. “The defendant must notify the court in writing before traveling,” the judge ruled.
