Dr. Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, has initiated a three-day medical outreach aimed at supporting 3,000 underprivileged residents in Bauchi State through his Chigari Foundation.
The outreach began over the weekend and is set to provide a range of essential healthcare services.
During the launch, Dr. Ashiru Abubakar, Technical Assistant to the Minister, highlighted that the initiative will include approximately 100 pediatric and gynecological consultations and surgeries, both minor and major. Additionally, the Foundation aims to conduct around 30 cataract extractions and provide reading glasses to over 50 individuals, resources permitting.
“This initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Minister, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), and other professional associations,” Abubakar explained.
He emphasized the shared vision among all participants to deliver free healthcare to the underserved population in Bauchi metropolis.
Surgeries commenced at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, which has allocated dedicated space for this outreach. Abubakar noted that the hospital management is actively involved in catering to the needs of these individuals.
In addition to surgeries, the outreach offers a variety of services, including dental consultations, day procedures, ultrasound, obstetric consultations, general outpatient services, laboratory tests, nutritional counseling, and pharmaceutical assistance.
The Chigari Foundation’s initiative marks a significant step in addressing healthcare disparities in the region, showcasing a commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of Bauchi State’s most vulnerable communities.
