The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has sought for more intervention from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for key tertiary institutions in the state.
This was during his visit to the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sonny Echono, on Monday in Abuja.
The Governor his request was based on the need to improve the quality of education in the schools, while noting the crucial role TETFund plays in enhancing the quality of tertiary education in Nigeria.
He explained: “Kaduna State has a total of three tertiary institutions, comprising one polytechnic and two state owned universities. Our goal is to improve the quality of education in each of them. We have currently decided to establish a campus for our state owned College of Education to provide opportunity for those who want to go in for NCE programmes (to have) easy access.
“So we need intervention to be able to fast track the development of the campus. Another area has to do with the security. The quality of education in Gidan Waya in the southern part of Kaduna has been facing alot of security challenges due to lack of fencing and some other facilities that would provide security for both students and staff of the institution.
“We also have issues relating to the development of the Faculty of Agriculture, to support the development of agriculture in the state-owned polytechnic, as well as development of new faculties in the state university. However, we cannot achieve our objective without the financial and technical support of TETFund.”
Responding, Arc. Echono assured the Governor of TETFund’s commitment to supporting the education sector in the state, adding that it remains focused on responding to the needs of tertiary institutions across the country to improve quality education and access to every interestdd person.
