Former President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Senator Monday Okpebholo on their historic win in the Edo State governorship election
In a statement released on September 22, 2024, and signed by Garba Shehu, Buhari’s media aide, the former president praised the APC and Okpebholo on their electoral victory, wishing the people of Edo State a “new lease of life”.
Buhari expressed hope that the incoming administration and the losing parties would work together to strengthen democracy and maintain the state’s development trajectory.
He also commended law enforcement agencies for ensuring a peaceful election and election officials for striving to improve the electoral process.
This congratulatory message comes after Senator Okpebholo’s emergence as the governor-elect in Edo State.
The statement read in part: “Congratulations to the APC and the election winner, Senator Monday Okpebholo on the historic electoral victory, and my warmest wishes for a new lease of life for Edo State and its people.
“I very much hope the winners and the losers will work together to strengthen democracy and maintain the trajectory of development in the state.
“I commend the law enforcement agencies for the efforts that they put into ensuring a peaceful election, and the multitude of election officials who strive to improve with each election.
“I pray that the Nigeria, the continent’s most populous country, will continue to achieve remarkable progress under democracy.”
