The Federal Capital Territory Administration has allocated N1.7 billion from the 2024 budget to establish a pilot Smart Secondary School in the FCT.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike announced this during an event celebrating the academic and sporting achievements of public school students in the FCT.
The purpose of this allocation is to align with global advancements in digital teaching and learning.
The Smart Secondary School will be located in Karshi, under the Abuja Municipal Area Council, and will be equipped with boarding and digital facilities for e-teaching and learning. This allocation is part of the N13.1 billion approved for the renovation, rehabilitation, and construction of new schools in the FCT for 2024.
Wike stated, “The success of this pilot project will determine the expansion of the smart school initiative to other schools within the territory, all to enhance the quality of teaching and learning.”
He expressed confidence that the project could be completed within the year and detailed some of the facilities that will be installed in the school, including computers, internet services, smart boards, and other digital devices for e-teaching and learning.
The minister emphasized that digital teaching and learning would necessitate moving away from traditional tools such as paper, pencils, and pens.
In addition, Wike acknowledged the talent and hard work found in public schools in the FCT during the celebration of students’ academic excellence.
