The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has disowned the nurse  who allegedly treated the late popular singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, before his death.

In a statement released by the NANNM on Saturday, it disclosed that the nurse suspected of injecting Mohbad was not their member.

NANNM described the suspect as an ‘auxiliary nurse’, saying: “the individual reportedly taken into custody by the police for providing care to Mohbad is not a registered nurse.”

The statement read in part: “In Nigeria, to be recognised as a Nurse, one must complete a rigorous five-year Bachelor of Nursing Science programme at a university, followed by an additional year of internship.

“Alternatively, one can undergo training at an accredited School/College of Nursing and become registered and licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.”

The father of the deceased, Mr James Aloba, had narrated how those close to the late singer, in the hours leading to his death, had called the auxiliary nurse to inject him for an undisclosed ailment.

The NANNM urged the public and media outlets to always verify the qualifications and professional status of individuals before labelling them as healthcare professionals.

They affirmed their commitment to promoting excellence, professionalism, and ethical conduct in the nursing profession.
