#EndBadGovernance: Court Grants Protesters N10m Bail

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail of N10 million each to ten members of the #EndBadGovernance protests, who are accused of attempting to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The ruling which was delivered by Justice Emeka Nwite on Wednesday, stated that each defendant must provide a surety of equal amount, who must be a resident and property owner in Abuja.

According to the ruling, the sureties are required to submit property documents and an affidavit of means to the court. Both defendants and sureties must also surrender their international passports and three recent passport photographs.

Justice Nwite rejected the Inspector General of Police’s objections to bail and ordered the defendants to refrain from participating in any public rallies during their trial.

The accused are to be held in prison custody until bail conditions are met.

The protesters face charges under sections 96, 410, and 413 of the Penal Code for alleged treasonable acts during their nationwide demonstrations.

The Inspector General of Police accuses them of breaching the Abacha Army Barracks, calling for a military takeover, burning down a police station, and inciting public unrest.

They are also alleged to have damaged multiple public properties, including a High Court complex and facilities of the National Communication Commission (NCC).

The accused are Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye, Adeyemi Abiodun Abayomi, Suleiman Yakubu, Opaluwa Eleojo Simon, Angel Love Innocent, Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiq, Bashir Bello Nurudeen Khamis, and Abduldalam Zubair.

Their trial is set to begin on September 27.
