The Ekiti State government has appealed to stakeholders to utilize their influence and networks to raise awareness and educate communities on malaria-related issues.
This call to action was made by Dr. Oyebanji Filani, Commissioner for Health and Human Services, during a quarterly meeting focused on eliminating malaria in the state.
The meeting aimed to reinforce the state government’s commitment to implementing effective malaria interventions, particularly targeting vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, and individuals of all ages.
Dr. Filani emphasized the importance of prioritizing personal and environmental hygiene and remaining vigilant in efforts to combat and eliminate malaria.
Stakeholders, including market leaders, artisans, drivers’ unions, religious leaders, and representatives of development partners, engaged in extensive discussions on strategies to end the scourge of malaria in the state.
Mrs. Hope Okoboh from the National Malaria Elimination Programme noted that despite government efforts, malaria prevalence remains high in Nigeria, highlighting the need for extensive sensitization and education on proper use of long-lasting insecticidal nets and other strategies to achieve a malaria-free Ekiti and Nigeria.
