The Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED) on Thursday trained civil society organizations and media practitioners in Kano to step up advocacy for the full implementation of the Free Maternal and Child Healthcare (FMNCH) Law.
The one-day workshop focused on building participants’ capacity for data-driven advocacy, grassroots mobilization, and strategic communication to improve maternal and child health outcomes in the state.
Board Member, Mrs Nafisa Ado, who delivered a message on behalf of CHRICED Executive Director, Comrade Dr Ibrahim M. Zikirullahi, said, “Kano records 576 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births and 59 neonatal deaths per 1,000 live births. These heartbreaking statistics show we are failing women and children.”She added, “Despite enacting the FMNCH Law in 2023, there is still no operational plan or functional council to guide its enforcement.”
