Civil servants in Borno State have begun receiving the newly approved N70,000 minimum wage, according to Dr. Babagana Mallambe, Chairman of the state’s Minimum Wage Committee and Commissioner for Budget and Planning.

Mallambe made this announcement during a press conference in Maiduguri on Monday.

He stated that the wage increase was aimed at boosting the morale, productivity, and economic well-being of state employees.

“All categories of civil servants have started receiving their minimum wage alert since last Friday,” he said.

“This is a significant milestone for our state, and a testament to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s commitment to the welfare of his workforce.”

The Head of Service, Barrister Fannami, emphasized the committee’s efforts to balance compliance with minimum wage laws and the state’s financial capacity.

He urged civil servants to reciprocate the government’s gesture with increased dedication and commitment to their duties.

Comrade Inuwa, a labour leader in the state, commended the government for the swift implementation of the minimum wage.

However, he appealed for similar approval to be extended to workers in the 27 local government areas, who have yet to benefit from the wage increase.
