Blackouts Spread to Imo, Abia as Alaoji Transmission Fails Again

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has attributed recent power outages in parts of Imo and Abia states to a loss of supply from the Alaoji Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

In an official statement released on Saturday, EEDC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, confirmed that residents in Imo and parts of Umuahia, Abia State, have endured a blackout since 7:45 AM on Thursday.

“Our customers in New Owerri, Owerri Urban, Owerri Rural, Orlu, Mbaise, and parts of Umuahia districts have been significantly affected,” Ezeh explained.

Despite the extensive disruption, Ezeh noted that the specific cause of the power supply loss has not been disclosed to the EEDC. “As of now, we do not have detailed information regarding this outage,” he stated.

Ezeh extended an apology to the affected customers, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the sustained blackout. “We sincerely apologise for the inconveniences this situation must have caused our esteemed customers and appeal for their understanding,” he stated.

He further expressed hope that the issue would be resolved promptly, allowing the EEDC to restore power supply to its beleaguered customers.
