Appoints Maduekwe as Climate Change DG

President Bola Tinubu has appointed key officials to drive Nigeria’s green industrial vision, boost investor confidence, and unlock sustainable economic value.

In a statement by Special Adviser Ajuri Ngelale, on Sunday, it was announced that Dr. Nkiruka Maduekwe has been appointed as the Director-General/CEO of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) in an interim capacity.

Dr. Maduekwe, a seasoned professional with extensive experience in climate policy development, will also serve as Co-Chairperson of the Intergovernmental Committee on National Carbon Market Activation Plan (NCMAP).

President Tinubu emphasised the importance of expertise in these roles, stating, “The President expects the new appointees to bring their expertise and discipline to bear in these very important assignments in pursuance of the nation’s aspiration on green industrial development and climate action for sustainable growth and national prosperity.”

Also, Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi Shelleng has been appointed as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Finance & Stakeholder Engagement, while Mr. Olamide Fagbuji will serve as the Senior Special Assistant on Climate Technology and Operations. Both officials are expected to play crucial roles in advancing Nigeria’s climate agenda.
