The Anambra State Government has approved a budget of N54.9 billion for infrastructure projects, including roads, streetlights, and education, as part of its drive to boost development across the state.
The decision was made at the 36th State Executive Council meeting and announced by the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, on Wednesday.
“This is part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s ongoing infrastructure revolution, which is based on strategic road selection intended to increase connectivity between communities and the 21 local governments in Anambra State,” Mefor stated.
“It will also strengthen the state’s foundation as a livable and prosperous mega-city.”
One of the key projects approved is the construction of the Trans-Nkisi Boulevard 1 road in GRA Onitsha, valued at N2.1 billion and awarded to Paul-B Nigeria Limited. According to Mefor, “The project will be delivered six months from the date the mobilisation fee is paid.”
Other road projects include the Nanka-Aguluzigbo-Umuona road, awarded to IDC Construction Company for N7.5 billion, and the Mbaukwu-Awgbu-Amaetiti-Okpaeze road, awarded to Cossel Construction Ltd for N10.95 billion.
“These roads are crucial in providing alternate routes for travellers and reducing traffic congestion,” Mefor explained.
Mefor also highlighted the approval of N13.5 billion for the development of 22 smart schools across all local government areas.
“These schools will signpost the model of secondary schools in Anambra State, equipping future generations to compete and dominate in the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” he said.
Additionally, the government approved N197.5 million for the supply of equipment and furniture at the Anambra State College of Health Technology, Obosi.
“The administration is sparing no resources to ensure that our educational institutions are well-equipped,” Mefor added.
The council also invited fresh tenders for the Awka streetlight project and celebrated the Supreme Court ruling that confirmed Sly Ezeokenwa as the national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), ending a leadership dispute.
“We are determined to ensure that every project is executed efficiently and provides lasting benefits to the people of Anambra,” Mefor concluded.
