Anambra State Ministry of Health Commissioner, Dr. Afam Obidike, has assured residents of the safeness of vaccines used in the upcoming Integrated Measles Vaccination Campaign.
The campaign aims for 95% coverage with no eligible child left unimmunized.
“The vaccines undergo a rigorous process before use,” Dr. Obidike said during a town hall meeting with stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, and civil society organizations.
Dr. Obidike emphasized the deadly nature of measles, stating, “It’s our duty to inform our communities and ensure children are vaccinated.”
Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency Executive Secretary, Pharm. Chisom Uchem, noted that the meeting aimed to enlighten participants on the importance of vaccination.
National Primary Healthcare Development Agency representative, Mrs. Josephine Erugo, commended stakeholders’ efforts and urged full support for the campaign.
UNICEF Vaccine Security and Logistics Consultant, Mr. Stanley Osum, assured that vaccines procured with UNICEF aid are WHO-approved and safe.
Stakeholders pledged support for the campaign, including Traditional Ruler of Uke, Igwe Charles C. Agbala, and Anambra Chapter Christian Association of Nigeria Chairman, Ven. Joseph Nweke.
