A fire incident at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital early Saturday morning destroyed property valued at millions of naira.
The fire, which broke out around 5 a.m. in a pediatric consultant’s office, is suspected to have been caused by an electrical spark.
It consumed electronic gadgets, engines, books, office equipment, and parts of the building’s roof.
Sixteen patients had to be urgently evacuated from the ward to ensure their safety.
In a statement issued by the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Ogunleye Omotayo, confirmed the incident but emphasized that there were no casualties.
“The management of the institution wishes to state that the fire incident… was put out without any remarkable damage to the hospital,” the statement read.
“Noting that no human damage was recorded… investigation is still ongoing with regard to the cause of the incident.”
Ogunleye added that normalcy had been restored, with power supply and work activities resuming in the affected section.
The management thanked staff, the Oyo State Fire Service, and well-wishers for their swift response.
“Everyone is advised to go about their normal daily activities without fear,” the statement concluded.
