KWARA, Nigeria – The Kwara State Government has praised the World Bank and other development partners for their sustained role in strengthening healthcare delivery across the state.
The commendation came during a two-day biannual Primary Health Care (PHC) review meeting held in Ilorin on Friday, which brought together programme officers from all Local Government Areas to evaluate progress, tackle challenges, and design data-driven strategies.
Speaking at the session, Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Prof. Nusirat Elelu, described the meeting as crucial to advancing the state’s healthcare vision.
She highlighted the World Bank-supported Immunisation Plus Malaria Progress and Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) project as a key driver of progress, saying, “The PHC review meeting facilitates knowledge sharing, evaluates vaccination coverage, and enhances coordination with partners to meet both national and global immunisation goals.”
She noted that the initiative aligns with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to revitalising PHC and prioritising health investment.
Director of Primary Health Care Systems, Michael Oguntoye, underscored the importance of Integrated Medical Outreach Programmes (I-MOP) in reaching underserved communities, urging health workers to focus on vulnerable groups such as women and children.
On behalf of development partners, WHO Public Health Officer, Dr. Dauda Gwomson, commended Kwara State for sustaining the review mechanism and reaffirmed their support, stressing, “Transparency is essential for addressing issues and enhancing service delivery.”
