ABEOKUTA, Nigeria — The Ogun State Government has conducted medical examinations for its athletes ahead of the ninth National Youth Games (NYG), scheduled to begin on August 29 in Asaba, Delta State.
The screening, held on Thursday in Abeokuta under the supervision of medical experts, assessed the athletes’ vital signs, physical fitness, and overall health status.
According to officials, the exercise was both precautionary and preparatory, designed to detect health concerns early while ensuring the state’s contingent is in top condition.
“This process ensures our athletes are physically fit, healthy, and mentally prepared for the challenges of the Games,” the Ogun State Sports Council said. “It is also a way of safeguarding their well-being before they face the rigours of competition.”
Sports administrators praised the government’s proactive step, noting that the screening boosted morale among athletes. “The team is now motivated and prepared to deliver an outstanding performance in Asaba,” officials added.
The 2025 National Youth Games, running from August 29 to September 6, will bring together over 6,000 athletes and officials from Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Ogun State has consistently been a strong competitor at the Youth Games, and expectations are high that the team will return with medals after rigorous preparation.
