Nigeria Unveils TRCN Digital Portal to Modernise, Reposition Teaching

ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government has launched the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) Digital Portal, an initiative aimed at modernising teacher management and repositioning the profession for the 21st century.

The portal, unveiled on Monday in Abuja in partnership with FCDO-PLANE Nigeria, was described as “a defining moment” by Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmed. “In a world that competes through ideas, skills and creativity, digitisation is no longer optional. Teachers must be at the centre of this transformation,” she said.

British High Commission representative Ian Attfield, Senior Education Advisor, noted the UK’s support through the FCDO-funded PLANE programme. He stressed the importance of smart systems that recognise and motivate teachers across public, private, faith-based and volunteer institutions.

According to stakeholders, the TRCN Digital Portal will improve transparency, accountability and efficiency by providing a centralised platform for teacher registration, certification and professional development tracking.

The initiative is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises digitalisation and human capital development as key drivers of national progress.
