LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Lagos State chapter, has threatened to join the Medical Guild’s strike if the state government fails to resolve unpaid salary disputes and welfare issues.
In a communiqué issued Monday after an Emergency General Meeting, the NMA accused the government of “deliberate insensitivity”, citing illegal deductions from July salaries and failure to guarantee full August payments ahead of the Guild’s August 25, 2025, deadline.
“The Lagos State Government risks a total breakdown in health service delivery if it continues to neglect its obligations,” NMA leaders warned.
The association also criticised LUTH management for failing to provide call-duty meals for over five years, describing it as “unethical and inhumane”.
NMA leaders, Dr. Saheed Kehinde (Chairman) and Dr. Olufemi Hassan (Secretary), further raised concerns about unpaid skipping arrears, calling the delays “wage theft.”
They demanded: Refund of July deductions, full August salaries by August 25, and end to arbitrary deductions.
Failure, they warned, would push Lagos hospitals into “chaos and service collapse.”
